The SSEI, head quartered in kolkata, has the following Chapters across India:
In West Bengal in the sub- Himalyan mountainous regions it has the Jalpaiguri Chapter (North Bengal) with the famed folk researcher and performer Dr. Saibal Basu as the Director; on the West Bengal border abutting on Bihar Orissa and Jharkhand there is the Purulia Chapter ( Purulia being the home of the famous Chhau dancers) with Drs. Chhandam and Indrani Deb as the joint Directors.
SSEI’s Jharkhand Chapter has as its president the noted scholar and communications expert Dr. Prasant (Jharkhand being a tribal and Dalit majority state with rich indigenous performative traditions situated adjacent to West Bengal.)
SSEI’s Nagpur Chapter in Viderva adjacent to Maharashtra State has a flourishing centre under the direction of Dr. Apara Tiwari.
SSEI’s Gorakhpur Chapter (Uttaranchal State) has as its director the young Shakespearean Dr.Awanish Rai.
Each of this Chapters have regular meetings with scholars, actors and Shakespeareans; works in close collaboration with schools, colleges and universities in their regions; runs a library and has at their disposal performance and seminar spaces. Most of the chapters carry out publication projects independently and in collaboration with SSEI.
New SSEI Chapters in the offing include one at Shillong, the beautiful mountain state in the North-East region of India and another in Meerut, in the extreme Northern region of India. |
